Hello and Welcome!
I’m so glad you’re here!
I’m Kate. I’m a mom to four amazing kids, and a wife to an equally amazing, supportive, husband. I’ve been doing the mom thing for almost 17 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly children grow up!
Other than photography and my family, I find joy in traveling… especially if it is to someplace warm with water and a beach! Bonus points if there is a hammock on the beach or a boat to ride in. Double bonus points if I can also be drinking my favorite Peach Mango drink while listening to some of my favorite music.
My family and I are also really big into games. We love hanging out with friends and family to play games. If you’re ever in need of a recommendation or review for a game, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m sure someone in my family has played it!
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. My friends and family remember me in grade school often walking around with a camera taking pictures. I loved it then, and I love it even more now. I love being able to capture moments and memories to cherish forever. I’ve never had a great memory, so maybe photography was (& is) my way to attempt to remember all the joy & goodness around me?
I often get asked how I got started in photography. I’ve always loved photography and I had always wanted to become a professional photographer. However, in college, I had some friends at the time who told me photography is just a hobby and I shouldn’t waste my time, or money, on it. Unfortunately, I took their advice and didn’t pursue a degree in photography. Then in 2000, my cousin got engaged. He & his fiancé approached me and said, “You always take the best pictures! Would you be willing to take the pictures for our wedding?” I was hesitant, since I had never done anything like that before, but decided to do it. After shooting their wedding I realized how much I loved photography and that photography is what I wanted to do as a career!
After their wedding, I spent time learning all I could about photography. I took classes; I read books; I went to workshops. However, within the first couple of years, I too got engaged & married and had a baby. So the first couple years seemed to be more of me practicing on anyone and everyone I knew. But quickly I was getting the hang of it and getting more and more paying clients. For the past 15+ years I have been able to do photography as a profession. I have been lucky enough to work with amazing clients, some of whom have become some of my closest friends!
